Chris Dearden has been crafting fine wines in Napa Valley for over 25 years. His mentors were Napa Valley Wine Pioneer André Tchelistcheff, respectfully called Maestro by fellow winemakers, and John Kongsgaard who continues to be a legend in the wine world. Chris had the opportunity to learn about classic Cabernet production from travels to 1st growth Chateau Haut Brion and Chateau Margaux as well as Grand Cru Burgundy producers Domaine Ramonet while working with Seguin Moreau. He has applied the best of these new world and old world techniques to enhance his own wine venture called Dearden Wines, which includes his luxury category brands called Sleeping Giant and Little Giant.
Sleeping Giant is not only a highly rated wine brand, it’s a Napa Valley legend…many generations ago a brave Wappo warrior was mortally wounded and laid down in the Western Hills of the Napa Valley, where you can still see him in eternal repose in the outline of the hills.
Little Giant is named in tribute to the stoic Newfoundland dogs who share the Dearden household, also called Sleeping Giants because of their enormity and fondness for lounging.
